“this image is derived from a satellite photo from google earth which I’ve re-oriented and cropped; these are city blocks in the Eixample section of Barcelona, a vast nineteenth century urban planning scheme that set up a series of square city blocks with wide streets and avenues; note that the buildings at the roadway intersections are cut at 45 degree angles in order to create a sense of space at those intersections; also interesting are the diagonal “alleys” that cut through the grid of square blocks to form interior passageways

it is in this part of the city that Antonio Gaudi built some of his best works — Casa Mila, Casa Batlo and the cathedral of Sagrada Familia”
